upgrading :: texas lifestyle photographer
i upgraded my theme today to pro photo 2.0 and I managed to get it done all in one day (even though I panicked during part of it when dear miss betty decided to sit on my power strip and turn it off and it looked like for some reason my pc lost everything, thank you imelda for answering my frantic phone call) and I hope you like it. it really is a good theme, great job jared on making it a little easier to customize, not to mention faster. the blog is now a bit narrower, images are a bit smaller (for those of you working off laptops and small screens) and I do apologize that some of the old posts aren’t lined up correctly I will correct that later when I get around to it (i think that is the ocd in me talking).
And The Lights Are Low :: Andrew Karnavas and Daniel de Luna :: Texas Music Photographer
It has been one year since the last time I photographed a live concert, I mean any concert…small, large venue, private engagement..anything. So, it was fitting that my re-introduction back into my first love in photography be in the a similar place as where I started. A hushed bar/restaurant on a busy downtown street, lights low, with friends gathered around.
I was apprehensive at first. After all, I did spot some familiar photographer faces in the crowd (I mean really should I even bother showing what I produce) and my typical pre-shoot nerves set in. I’ve always had stage fright, no matter whether it was really going on stage or not, it’s just always been there.
But the low hushed voice, the sweet melody of guitar…reminded me of the old records my grandfather used to play to put me to sleep on a stormy western Nebraska night. Like when the lightening crackles overhead, but all I could hear in my little 6 year old ears was the scratch, scratch of the record player and the strumming guitar…and the low voice intermingling with harmonica. This voice, Andrew Karnavas’s voice like those nights spent in my grandfather’s basement, was warm and inviting-a reminder of a time of simpler means. The kind of voice that says “welcome home, relax” and “sit up and listen” all in one swift-carry-you-away-before-you-know-it motion. On lead guitar was Daniel de Luna, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone as comfortable pulling out the music he did from those strings-like second nature, like breathing.
No this isn’t a review, I promise. I’m not really into reviews, just stories and experiences. And this is the story that unfolded last night in the candlelit corners of Angelo’s in a place called Houston, Texas as a photographer/artist scratched her itchy shutter finger. So please excuse my dodging in the darkness and the occasional pop of my flash; the lights were a bit low, but I just HAD to tell this story.
