three heart photography & design bio picture

welcome.

so you are probably wondering what this whole blog and website in one is all about, huh?  well, what it isn't is a regurgitation of my photoshoots.  what i like to think it is a little artful storytelling of my story, your story illustrated with a mix of my photography and design.

my photography is a lovely mix of artisty, photojournalism, emotion, humor with a little bit of edge and mood thrown in.  my design is clean and fresh.  i like to think outside of the box.

i am a small town girl transplanted from nebraska to texas. i am married to the love of my life and our little pug, betty, completes our family.

so grab a cup of tea or joe, get comfy....let's get started!

Changes For 2009 :: Texas Lifestyle Photographer

My biggest New Year’s Resolution this year is one thing and one thing only : spend more time with family ie my husband. Even if it means forcing myself to watch football or extreme cage fighting I will. I seem to have wandered off that path recently, well since August and wish to get back on it. My hubby works full time and goes to school full time, and as archaic as it may sounds, behind every good husband stands a good wife. My husband stands behind everything I do, I feel I should do the same.

My next resolution: get out more. Leave the house, take my camera, shoot for myself…there is a reason I moved to Texas with it’s moderate temp all year round. I need some FUN in my life.

And finally: set boundaries. I need to set boundaries for myself. I tend to be a workaholic and eventually wear myself thin. That can make for some major crankiness.

Okay so there they are the top three.

and onto other news……

Office hours for 2009 have changed and they are effective immediately. I like to set office hours because it helps me be more productive without working myself too thin and allows time for my family (the whole reason I work at home in the first place.)
These office hours are not shooting hours. I set shooting hours according to client schedule, when they need me, when the light is good, when the weather is perfect.

I’ll be working regular office hours Tuesday and Wednesday the 30th and 31st (maybe cutting out a little early on the 31st). I will not be working all day the 1st. And back to regular schedule on the 2nd.

New Office Hours:

Monday 8am to 6pm
Tuesday 8am to 6pm
Wednesday 8am to 6pm
Thursday OFF
Friday 8am to 6pm
Saturday 2pm to 8pm
Sunday OFF

Any blog or wordpress work that needs to be done overnight will be scheduled for Tuesdays.

I am currently working on the rate sheet for 2009 and should have it out soon.

tracylynnt - my office is the living room also, although we are looking into getting me some office space outside our home...I tried the whole "setting hours" thing towards end of 2008 and it worked fairly well, I just didn't enforce it enough...so my hubby and I sat down went over all our hours, ours needed by clients, hours that would get me on a decent schedule with real sleep and that is what we came up with. ha, my first half day I slacked off a little, just cause I'm getting sick with the flu again.

Heather Espana - Good for you, setting hours. I really should do that too.... it's even worse here because BOTH my husband and I work from home! And my office is in the living-room ;). It's so easy to get to work...

The Eternally Grateful Heart :: Texas Lifestyle Photographer

It’s funny how things strike you when you least expect them. How emotions rise up, catch you off guard at weird moments. As I sit here charging up my latest gadget gift from Santa, I was uploading photos to it and one caught my eye. It’s a photo many have seen, one I’ve seen all the time as it used to be the lead in image on my portfolio. Then, a tiny prick like a needle sting welled up in my heart. It took me so much by surprise that I had to catch my breath, and the world stopped on a dime. There was my husband:

Going Back

on his last night of leave in September of 2007 caught in mid-thought, head in hands. He was going back, going back to a place of dirty showers, sandstorms, gunfire, bombs, suicide, and hungry children. A place where there are no iPhones or new puppies or twitter.

Although he has been home now for a year, he quite easily could be going back like all of his buddies. They return in January, just under a year since they returned. 15 more months. And some of them it is a 2nd or 3rd tour where the odds of safe return home are stacked against them.

It is all too easy for me to forget, too easy because it is a human way of dealing with the pain, the sorrow, the loneliness that etched itself deep into my soul and heart. These are the scars of war, scars left on not just the soldiers but on their families. It is all too easy to giggle and say things like “look what Santa brought me for Christmas!” as I marvel at the wonders of my new iPhone or stare into the eyes of my new furry family member. But the true gift, the gift that I have to force myself to stop and remember even though I know it’s painful (blocking a year ago out would be the easier way to go) and joyful at the same time. Even though I know my eternally grateful heart will once again take a roller coaster ride of emotion in that remembering, in that feeling of gratitude; the kind of gratitude that comes when a birth occurs, gratitude that comes when a lost child is found–gratitude of epic proportions.

My eternally grateful heart is here beating so loud and so strong you can almost hear it, because my greatest gift is that of the life of my husband, of his love, of his family’s love, of knowing he will never leave my side again and I will always have his hand to hold. My most important Christmas wish granted by a Lord who is merciful, who would never put before me anything I couldn’t handle and who creates moments in time and gives me the talent to capture them so that I may be reminded daily when I start to forget that I other’s will not be home for Christmas this year so that my husband can be.

A Final Post Before Vacation :: Texas Lifestyle Photographer & Designer

I thought I would send out one final post before I boarded my plane tomorrow with my hubby in tow, bound for my home state and finally getting some relax time with family.

Some of you may have suddenly noticed that www.threeheartdesign.com takes you to a godaddy parked page…no worries I have not quit design, it just takes about 24 hours for it to propagate the forwarding to this site right here. I really am trying to streamline everything, and have chosen to put my design portfolio in a very easy to reach place, right at the top of the navigation menu of this site. If you click on it you’ll be taken to a page with links and until I can design some fancy schmancy buttons (which will be AFTER vacation) you have the links. I am also redoing rates for 2009, so if you are interested in booking please just use the contact button and send me an email.

I have been very busy with design and recently finished up these postcard flat leave behinds and stickers for jterrell:

And now for the exciting news that makes me want to jump up and down like a little kid…I think I’ll just let the photo do the talking:

it's mine! it's all mine!

Oh, Santa, I’ve been a very very good girl this year!

Greener Photography :: Texas Lifestyle Photographer

I am so pleased to announce that I have officially been accepted as a member of Greener Photography. In keeping with my eco-friendly business practices, how could I not join this amazing organization.

As an added note you will notice that album offerings for 2009 have changed a bit. I am now only offering one certain line that keeps with the the eco-conscious philosophy. I am still waiting to get approved through another album company Wild Magnolia Design. Although they are the first and only complete eco-friendly wedding design company they offer albums that are made out of reclaimed leather , peace silk and reclaimed wood as well as other eco-friendly materials. and eco-prints.

Michele - This is awesome! I had no idea it even existed. I need to jump on this!
